Cupping uses suction to lift and decompress soft tissue — effectively the opposite of the downward pressure used in massage. That decompression pulls blood into restricted tissue and creates space in areas that are chronically bound down, which is why it often works when other manual therapy has plateaued.
It's most commonly used across the back, shoulders, and legs, and pairs well with massage therapy or acupuncture in the same visit. The temporary circular marks are normal, painless, and fade within a few days.
